Humble & Fred Mark a Half Decade Away from Terrestrial Radio

Updated: Dec 11, 2019

Humble Howard and Fred Patterson rolled the dice five years ago. They had no terrestrial radio home and took their show online, distributed it in podcast form, and got picked up by Sirius XM. It's safe to say that the gamble has paid off. Fred Patterson tells me how to the Humble & Fred brand managed to stay relevant and vibrant. Take notes because it is fantastic lesson in personal branding and operating a business.

Something else that they offer to radio people who find themselves out of work, is an opportunity to continue their craft in their studios. As we pointed out during the podcast, no one can take away the art you create, only the amount you are compensated for it.

Speaking of those new studios - today Humble & Fred move into their new digs; a facility that they own. I would also like to point out that unlike a number of terrestrial radio operations, they turn a profit.

Also on the podcast, I speak with Danielle Doiron who became the first female to call a professional baseball game in Canada. She called a few games down the stretch for the Winnipeg Goldeyes during their championship season.

During the podcast, Danielle mentioned that her love of sports broadcasting was inspired by Kate Beirness from TSN. In the days after this podcast aired, Kate tweeted at Danielle.
