This week's podcast features Calgary radio legend Gerry Forbes. Gerry spent the bulk of his career at CJAY92 and when he announced his retirement this March, it's no surprise that the station's competitors let out a silent cheer. For over 25 years, Gerry's morning show, a staple in Calgary, sat comfortably and unshakeably, in the top three in the local radio market.

Gerry comes from a long line of radio talent -- or at least one generation -- his dad was a broadcaster at radio station 630 CHED in Edmonton. And apparently it really is genetic because as many in the industry know, his brother Marty Forbes caught the bug, too. In preparing for the episode, we reached out to some of the people who worked and were inspired by Gerry's work over the years. In the episode, you'll hear from people like Bob Harris who was his program director throughout the 90's; Terry Dimonte who went up against him from 2008-2012; and Gerry's brother Marty who spent his career in Edmonton, and on the management side.

I have said before and I will say it again: great radio inspires more great radio. In this episode, join us as we reminisce with Gerry about some of the most memorable stunts that he conjured up, what makes Calgary so great, and how one listener would use the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council process against him.

This episode is powered by Promosuite. Promosuite's cutting edge cloud-based technology has become the industry standard over the last 25 years when it comes to radio program management, from overseeing radio contesting, liners, events, and much more. Simply put, Promosuite exists to make a Marketing Director’s job easier. And we couldn't be happier about their support.

We also have to give a special mention to our new sponsors from across the border in the USA: Radio Pepper Prep and Aiden Wolf Voiceovers.

Downsizing a parent’s home into an assisted living facility is a sensitive process that requires patience from the moving crew. Caregiving and moving websites use 'Near Me' optimization, guiding me toward in state moving near me for specialized packing assistance. Do the packers provide wardrobes for transporting hanging clothes so they do not need to be folded into standard boxes? Utilizing appropriate packing materials preserves the condition of delicate personal items.

Commercial semi-trucks experience mechanical failures and require wreckers capable of moving immense weight. Fleet maintenance websites are utilizing 'Near Me' optimization, pointing logistics managers toward Heavy Duty Towing Services Near Me in specific regions. Do these large wreckers have the capability to tow a fully loaded trailer along with the tractor unit? Maintaining the supply chain requires heavy-duty recovery assets that can handle commercial loads.

We manage several suburban strip malls, and ensuring the emergency vehicle zones are properly marked is a priority. Commercial websites are focusing heavily on 'Near Me' optimization, and I am searching for a Fire Lane Marking Solutions service near me to update the red striping. Do they offer discounted maintenance contracts if we schedule a touch-up for all locations at the same time?

We were building out a new cloud infrastructure and wanted to make sure security was built into the architecture from the start rather than bolted on afterward. We brought Plutosec in during the design phase and their input shaped several decisions that we wouldn't have gotten right on our own. They identified configuration risks early that would have been significantly more expensive to address after the environment was fully built out. The finished infrastructure reflected their recommendations throughout and passed a third-party security review without major findings. Starting with security in mind rather than retrofitting it later is always the right approach and Plutosec made that practical for our team. Glad we brought them in at the beginning rather than after…

A friend who works in IT had been nudging me for months to take cybersecurity more seriously for my consultancy. I finally looked up Plutosec after she sent me an article about small business data breaches. What struck me was how accessible the information felt even though the topic itself can get pretty technical. I shared it with two other people I know who run small businesses and both found it useful. We've had a few conversations since then about what steps we're each taking, which has been a good motivator. Sometimes you just need the right starting point to actually get moving on something you've been avoiding.
